PROFESSIONAL GROWTH PLAN

What I Want To Be As An Educational Technology Leader

Change does not wait. In our current world, change happens quickly and regularly. As an Educational Technology Leader, it is my aim to be the catalyst for change and not the one who waits for change to happen. I will be the one who confronts issues head on and works to find the solution. When I receive my Ed.D. I will view it as the true beginning, and I will use my education to push forward in the changing landscape of education. I want the responsibility that comes with forging new paths, of having new ideas, of affecting change.

Technology is the newest tool in the educator’s bag of tricks, but it is an evolving one, and without proper dedication, it can and will pass us by. I strongly believe in the power of education and the need to be a life-long learner. By harnessing technology, I believe that the groundwork I help lay now will be the base on which my children and their children will stand to reach new heights, and I accept and welcome this responsibility. My success will directly lead to the success of others, and as an Educational Technology Leader, this is my goal.

My Educational Leadership Philosophy

As a leader in Educational Technology, I ascribe to the “Authentic Leadership” philosophy, as described by Northouse (2013). I truly believe a leader inspires others to follow in their footsteps because it is readily apparent that they have an unwavering belief in the mission they are setting out on and they are able to instill this trust in others. This leader is able to show that what they are embarking on is valuable, moral, and true.

I believe there are few things that fit that category more than education. As someone who plans to lead others, I want them to follow me not out of fear or the prospect of recognition, but because they trust in me and share the ideal that education changes lives for the better. Those who seek education often return from their journey with their own new ideas, and spread what they have learned. Education not only benefits the student, but also those that student comes into contact with. Sometimes all it takes is one small pebble to start the avalanche.

How I Plan To Get There

I have a specific timeframe for accomplishing my goals, as it is difficult to complete a race with no clear finish line. Also included in this is the constant assessing of myself, my strengths and weaknesses. It is important to be able to take a step back and really look at yourself to make sure that you are still on the correct path as well as to see what is or what not is working. I give formative feedback to my own students, and I would accept nothing less for myself as well. The following is my guide for achieving my goals:
